Ms. notebook of reminiscences written by Samuel Shumack on 1939 Feb. 11, dealing with his family's voyage to Australia in 1856 as well as people and anecdotes of the Canberra district in the latter half of the nineteenth century. The last page of the notebook is enscribed by Samuel's daughter Ruth on 1941 Mar. 27 who details the circumstances of her father's death in 1940, as well as apparently supplying the date of her father's reminiscences.

Samuel Shumack born in Counry Cork, Ireland, arrived in Australia with his family in 1856 at the age of 6. His father, Richard Shumack, was employed by Robert Campbell, Duntroon, then at Gininderra, where Samual also began work as a shepherd.
